Having difficulties in promoting or getting traffic to your website? Have you ever considered search engine optimisation, or tried content marketing? If you haven’t, there’s a number of reasons why having valuable content on your website can help your website, and your business, grow.
What is SEO content?
SEO content is created to attract specific users to your website. Having content that is interesting or informative attracts people to your site. The kind of content you will publish will depend on your target audience and what you’re selling. Establishing your site as the “go-to” site for information on a particular kind of product is a great way to establish credibility and trust. Or you may need to establish a connection with your target market eg new mothers, people setting up business for the first time. Making your target audience feel like they can trust you because you know all about the products they are considering, or you understand their new challenges, means they are more likely to buy from you. IF they are on your site to read something interesting to them, then it’s much easier to get their attention to sell them something. Over time, it also makes it easier for more people to find you, as, if done properly, it will improve your search engine rankings.
There are three parts to consider when creating SEO content.
Combining these four factors can equate to high valuable traffic, which can turn into leads for your website. In our previous article, we enumerated the different types of SEO content. This can be found on our website.
Planning your SEO content strategy
Methodical SEO content planning is needed when writing or creating the content suited for your website. Here are some keypoints on how content strategy works.
The first question to ask is what are your goals for your website? Are you promoting your products through your content? Or are you monetizing your website through advertisements, in which case you want to increase the traffic and returning users? Your goals will determine what types of content you should focus on.
If your goal is to promote your products, your primary focus should be informative product pages that are optimised for both conversions and search. Your secondary focus of your content strategy is your blog post that illustrates how your product works and how helpful your product is for the user.
If your website goals are to attract new users through search, you might want to focus on rich content (Long articles or videos that are informative and entertaining).
Know your target audience
Know the people who visit your website. Use survey or use analytics software to determine who your typical visitors or clients are. Put yourself in the shoes of your clients or visitors and determine what content they are looking for when they visit your website.
For example, if your business deals in industrial machines, you might want to consider giving tips and advice on specific tool maintenance and repairs. If you are selling shoes then you might want to include fashion news, or information about the materials used in your products, or their source, especially if they are environmentally friendly.
If you are dealing a younger demograhic, you might want to consider posting more photos and videos to keep them interested with your products.
Create a content calendar
After determining your target audience, it’s time to create a content calendar to help you create new content and determine what type of content you will post on a certain date or given time. This will help you stick to your schedule and prevent you from scrambling for a new topic at the last minute. Consider your business and what people buy and when. Is it seasonal? Does tax time have an impact? Retailers are excellent in taking advantage of the next big sales opportunity and significantly impact when we start shopping for Christmas, Easter, Halloween and other events. Don’t wait for your customers to start looking at the next ‘season’. Schedule your content to tell them it’s begun!
In creating content for your website, give yourself plenty of time to research, especially for complicated types of content (ex. Infographics and vlogs). Consider something that people value, like on-going features (eg. New food recipes, upcoming product reviews). Anything that can be published regularly and is helpful to your audience is valuable.
Analyze and Re-assess
Regularly analyze your SEO content through your analytics page to see what’s working and what isn’t. Having high shares, views, reviews, comments and conversion rates will determine how effective your content is.
Take your time to study how you can repeat those strategies in the future. For example, do people love your instructional or funny videos? Then create more of these types of content. Do people find your blog post appealing? Does it give sufficient information to the user, or can they simply relate to your situation?
